What makes up your inner being?
For those who are new here, I will explain why that question is important.
Eight aspects compose our inner being
- Will
- Soul
- Mind
- Spirit
- Heart
- Intuition
- Conscience
- Sub Conscious
Our inner being is a complex mix of these eight aspects that shape our identity and personal growth.
Each aspect is broken down into many parts that help us grow and improve.
Understanding these parts helps in achieving personal growth, emotional balance, and spiritual fulfillment.
Let’s start with one we are familiar with – our soul. What is it?
The soul is our core. It is where ‘who we are’ – our being – is formed and often described as the seat of our mind, will, and emotions.
We can already see how complex the soul is and why it’s essential that we take care of it.
From creation on, we see the role the soul plays in who we are.
But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul Deuteronomy 4:29 NIV
In verse 28, Moses warns the people that they will end up worshiping idols, but verse 29 says that their hearts and souls can keep them on the right path.
This shows that we control our hearts and souls, but God helps us.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
Our hearts and minds are part of our soul.
Here are our first steps in protecting and building our souls
- Nourish our soul with faith and spiritual practices.
- Align your will and choices with your values and keep them aligned.
- Use wisdom and truth to train your mind.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think (your mind) about such things. Philippians 4:8 NIV
Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 1 Peter 1:13 NIV
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 NIV
Here are three more steps we can take in relationship to our minds.
- Think about (set your mind on) whatever is noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy.
- Keep your mind alert and sober, and set your hope on the grace that is coming.
- Be transformed by the renewing of your mind!
Now, we have six steps to keep our soul and mind, which is part of the soul, pure and free from everything that would come in and try to make us less than what we want to be.
Your mind is under your control, but you will need to formulate your personal method for maintaining that control.
Our thoughts, emotions, heart, intuition and conscience are all under our control.
